ASP comment 6/15

In 6/15, we watched the movie that is made for the first ASP class. In the movie, I didn't used to talk in English, so sometimes I stopped talking. I was glad because I could fell some improving my English skill!
after that, we discussed about "the most useful thing in ASP" "the most interesting thing in ASP" "the most enjoyable thing in ASP". I will upload the movie of discussion, so please watch that.

And after that we took picture with Rab! YEAR!

ASP comment 6/11

In 6/11, we discussed about "what is the 12 items that you bring to isolated island?".
Rab said at first we have to think material to live, for example, fire, air, or food.It is very efficient way to discuss, so we tried to do this way. First we wondered we couldn't decide only 12 items, but as soon as we started to discuss, we found that we don't need so much items to live. We decided only 6 items.

I think we need some ability or knowledge in order to survive, so my list is this.

1 survival knife
2 the lens (to make fire)
3 axe
4 books "How to make medicine from nature"
5 Drum can (to take a bath)
6 blue sheet(useful?)
7 book "How to make instrument to catch the animal in nature"
8 book "How to play in nature"
9 book "how to fish in nature"
10 book "how to cook good dinner in nature"
11 book "how to spend time in isolated island"
12 book "how to talk with nature"


In short, we need only 6 items!

ARW Blogging Assignment 6 (OMS)

The most useful approach to use in critically analyzing The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway is Santiago as Christ Figure. The old man lives with the boy for 40 days. In Christianity, this number is blessed number. It is because after Resurrection, Christ live for 40 days and dead. So it is a metaphor that the old man is Christ and the boy is disciple. And also the old man goes to the sea to catch the fish for 3 days. For the old man, this 3 days are full of struggle. And the term that Christ was dead is 3 days, and after that, he resurrected. Which mean that Christ is full of struggle for 3 days.
I think It is very persuasive aspect, but I wonder that sequence is not same between the old man and Christ. The old man spent with the boy for 40 days, and after that, he spends on the sea for 3 days. However, Christ is reverse.

ASP comment 6/1

Today, we learned about how to make good presentation.Rab said the good presentation have little word, and I strong agree with this. After that, we made power point of Meiland in group. I felt that choosing the picture for presentation is difficult. Our group's topic is that difference between high school and college so we tried to use the picture of high school's class, but it's not fun. Our thinking is that fun is very important because through own experience, we know that the presentation which is not fun is only boring. So we try to express the idea in metaphor. But we couldn't finish finding good picture for presentation to the end...

ASP comment 5/28

Today we had practice of P&D.
Every students made the presentation of Mailand and do P&D for 10 minutes. We made only outline so we have to do presentation improvised. First I didn't think I can spend 10 minutes, but in fact I could. On the contrary, I wanted more time to discuss. I felt that it is difficult to do discussion in short time. I think the shorter presentation is, the more important leader's working become. I should practice leader's skill, I thought!

ARW blog assignment 5 (OMS)

The main characters in Old Man and the Sea are Santiago, a fisherman and Manolin, a boy who helps him.
Three adjectives that describe Santiago are sensible, manly, lonely.
First, We can see that the reason why Santiago is sensible in page 13. He told Manoline that it is impossible to take Manoline in his boat. And often he told boy that boy should get on father's boat.
Second We can know that Santiago is manly in page 18-19. In this sentence there are description of Santiago's form. He looks still powerful in spite of his age. Also his thinking is manly because he still desire to get big fish.
Third we can see the old man's character, lonely in page 45. In this page he went to sea alone in order to get big fish. And he said aloud "I wish I had the boy,". And also in the living before he went to the sea, boy often came old man's house. He took in boy and never told boy go out.

Three adjectives that describe Manoline are friendly, diligent, mature.
First, Manoline is friendly because they have strong friendship in spite of the gap of age. It indicate Manoline don't care the age, and he can have friendship with other easily.
Second we can see the fact that Manoline is diligent through their living. Manoline often came to old man's house to make breakfast. Perhaps Manoline did't have to cook because he have own house and he can get breakfast. But he cooked at old man's house.
Third character of Manoline is mature. He sometimes notice that old man lie because of worried about boy's hardship. But boy pretend not to notice the old man's lie.

ASP comment of 5/21

We were taught the three composition of presentation.
content, structure and delivery.
This lecture was very fun and I assented a lot of points.

First is the structure of presentation.
I sometimes felt that there are some difference between students and official.
And this lecture made me sure the difference.
Some official presentation have self introduction and connect to topic.
I thought I'm going to try this structure when I have presentation.

Second is delivery.
Rab said "never read paper!". And I agree strongly.
In high school there were a lot of people who read paper in presentation.
And this presentation are never interested in.


After
ASP class, I had P&D in ARW class.
I couldn't do the way of presentation I learned enough, but I will continue to use this strategy.

5/11 ASP comment

In class, we discussed about "what is the most necessary things if we distress at desert?".
first of all, we think the ranking only thinking, which mean without talking. And after that, we had discussion.
through the discussion, I found that the ranking I decide had a lot of mistakes. I had never had the experience that my opinion changed so much, so this discussion presented me feeling fresh!
About ranking, I was surprised a lot. If I have into the situation like thi, I can't survive...
But for this class, I feel that I can get a little thinking way of army! May be I can survive much longer than before class.

By the way, my score was 87. I don't want to die...

5/7 ASP comment

Almost all of time, we discussed about "when we have to choose who rescue first, what is criterion for us?" First of all, I couldn't understand what should we discuss because all members have similar opinion. After Rab explained discussion's purpose, we just started to discuss. Discussion's purpose was finding difference of culture, but our classmates have similar background so our discussion didn't heat. I thought If members of discussion have various background, we might have active discussion.

ASP class comment (4/27)

At first, we discussed about "what is good discussion?"
And through the discussion, we find following reason.
1. The group member of good discussion have the mind to understand others opinion above all.
2. In good discussion group, there is the leader that understand all of member's opinion and make discussion topic clear.

sometimes I feel that we should practice leader's working. Almost all of our discussion we don't have conclusion. And sometimes we don't discuss, we only tell our own opinion.


next we discuss about "Even though the percentage of women in the world is about 50, why the percentage of women who work in government is only 10?"
My opinion is that this problem is caused by culture. Today, we still have bias that the man work at outside and that the woman do housework and raise the child. To be a worker in government, we need much money and almost all of woman can't make such money so there are less women working in government than men.

By the way, my group discussion was very interested because the value between Takao and Saki oppose perfectly. In the end, they couldn't understand each other. I felt that it is difficult that difference of value is understood.

Comment to the movies(ASP assignment)

there are some difference between two group discussion. First point is their mind what should they do. The member of bad discussion want to tell opinion more than to understand others. But in good discussion, everyone try to understand others opinion. So talking people is always only one. which is very effective discussion style because all topic that discussed are understood by everyone(unless there are people who are so shy or who have no will to discuss). Second point is that leader's working. The leader of good discussion make the conclusion everyone agrees. It is because sometimes leader try to say the member's opinion in other words, that make topic easy to understand, and that develop the discuss smoothly!

By the way, I can't understand why both of discussion have the time to chat before leader tell everybody start. Is this exchanging opinion?

Making good relationship between friends is the key to motivating oneself because it presents us refreshing, having effective classes, and giving will to work hard.

How do "good" college teachers present information? (ARW homework)


According to Meiland, a "good" college teacher presents information in the following way.
In general, they present in the sense of ''what is currently believed''. But it is not enough to make good students. The college students must have critical examination and evaluation after understanding material.
I agree with this opinion. In high school or earlier education, we answer the question that have correct answer made by teacher already. But in our life, almost all of question we face is not have perfect answer, like changing the job, how to use the money, whether or not you telling affection to someone,,, and so on. there is no answer and we have to make acceptable reason in our own efforts or we might regret for way we decide. So I agree with this opinion but I also worry about dangerous of critical thinking. When we have critical examination and evaluation TO CRITICIZE, there is no meaning because our purpose why we have such things is to practice the skills to make or choose better way.So we must not lose the purpose why we study.
